Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RNFA) provides direct patient care as part of the perioperative role, by acting as First Assistant to the surgeon during operative procedures, may assist the surgeon by performing technical functions during surgery, including intra-operative retraction, homeostasis, tissue manipulation, and wound closure.

Job Requirements

  1. Work Experience: Minimum three years’ experience as both scrub and circulating nurse. B. Education: Minimum completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program, either successful completion of a RNFA course jointly approved by the Chief of Surgery and the Director Surgical Services or certification as a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) by the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). C. License, Certification, or Registration Required: Registered Nurse with current California RN license, current BLS certification, current ACLS certification, CNOR, and Certified Nurse First Assist (CRNFA) by the Competency and Credentialing Institute. D. Language Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language. E. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area (BSP), circumference and volume. F. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
